The opening pages of TWILIGHT IMAGES grab the reader and draw him/her into the life of Thad Connors, a man whose parents were killed mysteriously years earlier. This well written novel is filled with suspense and I found myself guessing how Thad's journey would end. I wanted to discover the truth almost as much as the main character! Bravo to Ethel Lewis for crafting this tale of crime, mystery, and suspense.

Ms. Lewis, brings an intriguing tale of a young man who lost his parent's too soon, supposedly a murder/suicide. Unanswered questions in his mind, haunt him and he needs answers. Thad takes a vacation to the cabin where his parents died, this is the story of his quest for answers.
I did find it a bit slow now and again, but the mystery had me hooked. I had to find out just as he did. Ms. Lewis descriptive narrative takes you to that small town with this lovely work. If you are a fan of suspense then I highly recommend this novel.

The book introduces you to Thad, haunted by nightmares since the alleged murder/suicide of his parents. Ten years after this gruesome event, he returns to the cabin by the lake – hoping to find clarity and finally put an end to his nightmares. I will not tell you more about the story than shown in the Goodreads plot description. This would spoil the fun of reading this book yourself.
With Twilight Images, Ethel Lewis has created an intriguing story of a man in need of closure. As his nightmares return and/or intensify, his wife supports urge to uncover the truth. Twilight Images focuses on Thad, and the steps he takes to find out what really happened when his parents died – he is not really convinced about the police’s decision to close the case. His wife Dorothy had to stay at home – due to her job; it is obvious that she is a vital part of his life. The author grants Thad his own pace to reveal information, find out something new. This is a very nice touch. The relevant characters are described in more depth, are convincing. Twilight Images is a good read for fans of suspense novels with a very human touch, a beautiful environment, and not too much gore.
This book is an enjoyable read. I’ll certainly read it again.

This is a story about Thad Connors who lost his parents ten years ago and although the authorities had ruled it as murder/suicide, Thad couldn’t help thinking that maybe there was more to the story and it need to be investigated further…..he needed to know the truth. After years of sleepless nights tormented by nightmares and demons, Thad decides its time to get the truth about what happened to his parents in order to live a happy life with his wife Dorothy and dog Ben.
Thad travels to the cabin where the suicide/murder happened and decides to get back in touch with therapist who counselled him through the investigation and death of his parents.Together, they slowly delve into the nightmares Thad has been having and try to make sense of it all, what do the dreams represent? Is his sub-conscious trying to tell him something?
Whilst staying in the town, he makes friends with a girl called Lily who works in the local stationary shop and has problems of her own; her mother had an accident years ago and has never spoken since, so Lily has to care for her when she isn’t at work. Lily and Thad help each other help and manage to solve the mystery of what happened to his parents.
Even though I have been delayed in writing this review due to technical issues and a few internet hiccups, I found this story quite a light read that I managed to finish fairly quickly (I had to go caveman style and write the review by hand and then type it up once everything was working). I enjoyed how the author threw a few twists as to what could have happened to the parents and it is only right at the end that you found out what happened, where as a lot of stories like this tend to give you inclinations quite early on. I was also left in suspense as to what part Lily and her mum played in it all whether they knew about the murder or whether they were just friendly characters.
I also liked the relationship between Thad and Dorothy and the fact that even though they both had a lot of things to deal with, they still made time for each other, and worried about each others problems. You normally find in the kind of situation where a character is having to deal with something personal like Thad did, the author tends to portray them as somebody who shuts everyone out and marriages break up over it etc, but it was refreshing to see that it was the opposite with this story.
I would give this story a 3/5 – it needed just a little pinch more of suspense for me but I still enjoyed it as an easy read and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a bit of mystery but like me gets spooked easily so need to occasionally read something lighter.

Exploring travesties of life through nightmares, their aftereffects and actuality; that is how do I look at "Twilight Images: A Haunting Journey of Suspense" by Ethel Lewis. Considering that this is one of her first works, Ethel has presented us with an engaging enough story while managing the layered narrative. Wearing my other hat as a fellow writer, let me say that we do get involved with our characters, and at times, it emphatically comes out in pace and depth of some characterizations as well as plot itself and this intense involvement is evident in Ethel's writing.

I wish Amazon would let me give half stars, I'd actually give this a 4.5 ;) I really liked it. The name and plot description really got me and I enjoyed the book overall. Plus: The story was intriguing and it was really easy to imagine yourself in the book experiencing everything along with the characters, which I really loved. The only thing that kept me from being able to 5 star it is that for me personally, I thought it was a little too descriptive in parts. I'm one of those readers that doesn't want a paragraph long description of a place, I want a short description and then get right to the plot lol. But that's a personal preference thing and I'm sure some people would love the descriptiveness!
Interesting idea, quick read. September 5, 2014

Ms. Lewis had an interesting idea for a story. Thad Connors has been having nightmares. These nightmares started 10 years ago, after his parents died in what the police said was a murder/suicide, but he never believed that they had discovered the whole story. He felt that the only way to rid himself of his nightmares, was he to find out what really happened.
This book was written fairly well, but there were a few problems that new authors often have. Sometimes the action seemed to drag, like Ms. Lewis was afraid to speed it up, because she didn’t want the book to be too short. She also didn’t allow Thad to work hard enough on his investigation. He would spend a whole day on something that should have only taken a few hours. I think that she may want to use her town in Texas as the setting for her next book. That way she will know the area better and will be able to add those local details that always make a novel so interesting. In fact, she may find that she has to edit out some of the details, because the book is running too long.
Ms. Lewis also needs to work on her dialog. At time it feels stiff and stilted. Setting her book in Texas might also take care of that problem, and give the dialog a bit of an authentic feel. But don’t try to work the accent in, that is very tough to do, and seldom works.
When I think of authors and the way they handle locations and dialog, the first name that comes to mind is Elmore Leonard. He had some tips on writing that most new writers should at least read, and then decide if they are helpful. He summarized his ten tips, “My most important rule is one that sums up the 10. If it sounds like writing, I rewrite it.” From WRITERS ON WRITING; Easy on the Adverbs, Exclamation Points and Especially Hooptedoodle.
I give this book 3 Stars out of 5. It is a quick read, and only costs 99 Cents, so if you want to read a mystery by a new author, and to spend a couple of hours of reading for pocket change, grab it, I think that you will be entertained.
I received this book for free from the author, Ethel Lewis, in return for an honest review.

The story starts out pulling the reader in with curiosity as to the complete story of what Twilight Images are to reveal. Thad is a complex character that leads the reader through his nightmares in order to find the truth. Thad needs to find the truth behind his parent's death, even if the truth hurts. The story shows the burden of on the character, Thad, and even his wife Dorothy. The pain and tragedy takes a toll on the characters but it also brings strength. Sometimes the truth is within ourselves, even if we forget to remember. Well written story.
